Welch Allyn is a leading manufacturer of frontline medical diagnostic equipment and healthcare products for Physicians, Hospitals, Emergency Medical Services. The Unites States sector has recentyl received 510(k) FDA clearance for a brand new piece of kit called the "iExaminer".
This attachment allows the company’s PanOptic Ophthalmoscope to connect to an apple iPhone for completing patient fundus examinations.
Together, the combination can allow eye doctors to take an image the eye then save them for later review or to share with colleagues for additional medical opinion.
The new combined system is essentially a telemedicine product that will assist in outreach ophthalmologists to operate remote clinics that would otherwise not take place.
The iExaminer, which aligns the eye piece of the ophthalmoscope to the phones camera, is already compatible with the previous iPhone 4 and 4S models.
Going that extra mile, the company have also developed an application available from the Apple App Store that is free to compliment the new system.
