Bausch & Lomb Launch High Definition Contact Lens

From April 2012, UK contact lens wearers will be able to hand their hands on the latest HD contact lenses, PureVision2, designed for patients with astigmatism. These new lenses from the optics giants Bausch and Lomb promise to offer the latest in contact lens technology, whilst also incorporating Auto Align Design, a system designed to offer improved stabilisation to wearers.

The major benefit of the PureVision2 lenses for patients with astigmatism is the added stability they offer through the Auto Align Design system, due to feedback from sufferers that one of their biggest complaints was an inability to keep lenses stable on their eyes, and thus an inability to maintain clarity and focus while wearing them. The new ballast design overcomes this problem, whilst also offering a large lens diameter to improve contact lens stability on the eye.

Other concerns and issues facing astigmatism sufferers:

  • Blurred vision
  • Hazy vision
  • Unstable and fluctuating degrees of vision quality

The new contact lenses are said to be the only silicone hydrogel contact lenses for astigmatism to control spherical aberration in both the sphere and cylinder meridians, across the entire power range.

Feedback on the new PureVision2 contact lenses from surveys:

  • 97% approval that excellent stability is achieved
  • 89% approval that clear vision is consistently achieved
  • 83% approval that the lenses are comfortable to wear
