The world's first silicone hydrogel contact lenses have been launched to much fanfare in London by Sauflon. The contact lens manufacturer was proud to show off it's new range of daily disposable lenses designed made from this substance which lists being highly permeable to oxygen as it's main selling point.

Sauflon, formed in 1985, are amongst the market leaders in the UK contact lens field with high quality products available to opticians, optometrists, eye doctors and eye care professionals across the world. The company supplies eye care products directly to opticians and other eye care experts.

With the company based in London, it made sense that the grand unveiling of their new SiH contact lenses should be here. Although the breakthrough in technology has been fast approaching from all sides of the globe, notably North America, Sauflon are delighted to announce a world first for British industry. With silicone being oxygen permeable, the lenses use both their water and polymer content to transmit oxygen to the eye.

Benefits include:

  • Comfort and convenience. They contain less water and deliver higher volumes of oxygen to the eye itself than other lenses.
  • Less prone to causing dehydration.
  • Can allow for overnight wear in some patients.
  • Can, in theory, be possible to allow for 30 days of continuous wear.

The new 1 day toric eye care product looks set to offer a much comfortable solution to contact lenses currently available in the optical market.
