Dust Video Clip Available On YouTube

youtube clip filmed by the clinical skills centre

Thanks to the Clinical Skills Centre in Dundee, practitioners can now watch a video clip showing how to discover tobacco dust during an eye examination that was previously reserved only for course material.

With the video sharing site YouTube becoming seemingly the fountain of all knowledge along with its parent company Google, many industry specialists, DIY experts and the not so expert have used the media sharing functionality to demonstrate and display how to do an endless range of procedures from the delicate operation to simple do it yourself tips. It has therefore been welcomed that this rare optical video clip has been made available to eye care professionals globally.

The footage was filmed in Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and is part of a course entitled 'Managing Flashes and Floaters.' The course is designed to educate optometrists in how to detect retinal detachment. Like with many things, the theory aspect of teaching an optometrist to search for dust is all well and good but as it is a fairly uncommon sight, the ability the actually view the occurrence is something that certainly cannot afford to be missed. Diagnosing this condition at an early stage is a potentially sight-saving find, and this video will hopefully pass on essential knowledge to practitioners.
