European Difference

A recent Big Lottery Fund Grant has been awarded to Action for Blind People who are working on a new project in Nottingham, Leicester and Derby  as part of a community reach - out program to bring news, health advice and important information on eye health care to communities that might not be graced with such support.
In particular, diseases such as glaucoma are more prevalent in ethnic minority groups, and the need for awareness, as it can strike at a far earlier age than in Europeans, is vitally needed to assist with early diagnosis and long term management or treatment for the individual.

Just under a quarter of a million pounds has been given to the Charity to help pave the way for trained volunteers to go out into such communities, supported by a coordinator and assistant to work in each city and keep up the important message that sight loss is not necessary with education, accessible check ups and contact with eye health professionals.
