New Director Called For

It has been debated that due to the fragmented nature and set up of eye health and vision services in the UK that the National Health Service should create a post of clinical director to tackle what have been labelled " urgent" challenges currently being faced by the industry.

The request comes further to interviews and research that was completed with more than twenty eye health community stakeholders and the report itself was published by the ABPI Pharmaceutical Ophthalmology Initiative (POPI), including representation from the likes of companies Bausch & Lomb, MSD, Bayer and Novartis, in a document called "Better Vision for All". The called for Director would assist in a brand new eye health awareness campaign nationally, and to ensure that patients provision of  treatments and services are provided with care to cost and quality. The Director would be a national figurehead supported by a national eye health network.

It is recorded that sight loss costings in the United Kingdom are up to 22 Billion pounds a year, and details of delays in treatment provision and rationing out of services indicates that the current system is already finding it difficult to cope with demand.
