Nidek MP-3 Microperimeter Launched

Nidek MP-3 Microperimeter Launched

The global optical manufacturer, Nidek, has announced the launch of its new microperimeter, the Nidek MP-3. The microperimeter can evaluate retinal morphology with the included 12 megapixel camera. The resulting findings can then be displayed over a colour fundus image, correlating retinal anatomy to retinal function.

Since its initial creation, Nidek has been a market leader in the creation of eye care products through a combination of optical and electronic engineering. The brand covers three main sectors in the eye health market, ophthalmology and optometry, lens edging and coating technology. The products available through Nidek offer eye care professionals the opportunity to examine, diagnose and treat vision and sight related issues and complaints.

The Nidek MP-3 Microperimeter Overview:

  • Wide measurement range
  • Auto tracking and alignment
  • Fixation test
  • High resolution, non-mydriatic fundus camera
  • MP-3 images of pre and post treatment comparison

Here is a short statement, released on 11th May 2015, from Nidek, regarding the new MP-3:

"Assessment of retinal morphology has advanced significantly due to the introduction of Optical Coherence Tomography into clinical practice. Advances in the functional evaluation of retinal pathology are due to the use of the microperimeter. The MP-3 measures local retinal sensitivity for functional assessment of the retina. The results can be displayed over a color fundus image, correlating retinal anatomy to retinal function."

In comparison to the older MP-1 microperimeter model from Nidek, the MP-3 offers a wider range of stimulus intensity, from 0 to 34 db. The MP-3 also measures perimetric threshold values, even for normal eyes.

Its auto tracking and alignment features allow for improved accuracy and allows for increased patient and operator comfort, as well as being a more efficient product. In turn, this allows easy follow up, and reduces examiner variations in results, providing better follow up exam alignment.
