Opticians Quick Thinking Saves Mans Eye Sight

quickly diagnosed detached retina saves patients sight

An Oldham opticians speed of thought came into its own when he was able to successfully help in preventing a male patient losing his sight. In a matter of just days, the 41 year old may have become blind had he not decided to make the trip to the opticians that he did.

The patient at the centre of this story had noticed that over a period of a few days his vision had started to deteriorate with what he described as a black misting increasing over his eye. Without delaying, he quickly made an appointment with his local optician and made his way to see them. It was this thought process which can usually be missing in the average persons mind, as many of us are conditioned to see if the problem 'just goes away' or that many of us just don't like troubling our GP's or opticians with what may seem minor issues. However, upon arrival and examination at his opticians, he was advised to urgently seek surgical attention following his optometrists diagnosis of retinal detachment.

A detached retina usually exhibits symptoms of interference in a suffers line of sight, with things such as flashes of light being visible or a sense of the eye itself feeling tired or heavy. Such symptoms are often attributed to stress and are as such ignored, sometimes with severe consequences.

Having undergone emergency corrective surgery upon his eye, the patient from Oldham is now recovering well and owes a debt of gratitude to his quick thinking optician who in this case, certain saved his sight.
