Blepharitis Care

Blepharitis is an inflammatory condition that affects the eyelids. Oils and surface products compound on the eyelid surface and in the lashes which leads to irritation and redness.

The basic treatment of the condition is very careful cleaning of the lashes and lids to remove the irritants.
Warm compresses for up to ten minutes will make debris easier to remove.
Warm clean moistened cotton buds can be used in a side to side motion to remove oils. Used boiled water, and allow it to cool before adding a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to a pint of water. The solution can be made up  and kept in a fridge for a few days.

If you consult your optician or GP they may prescribe an antibiotic ointment that should be applied after the warm compresses and lid cleaning.
With regular and careful cleaning the irritation and soreness should improve over two to eight weeks of beginning of the treatment.
