Autophoropters and Refractor Heads

A phoropter, also known as a refractor, is commonly used by eye care specialists during an examination of a patients eye. During a sight test, a phoropter or refractor measures a patients refractive error to determine an individuals prescription, via the use of multiple lenses for refraction of the eye. A phoropter or refractor can also be used when measuring a patients phorias and ductions. An autophoropter or auto refractor offers automated refraction of the eye.
