No you haven't just found yourself in the middle of a new Disney film. No you aren't hallucinating having had that milky coffee that you could have sworn tasted funny. And no it isn't April Fools Day, and this isn't a joke. An optician, and from that we can only take for granted that they are sane and of intelligent mind so as to find themselves as qualified eye specialists, has launched a new range of 'funky' and 'fashionable' specs, for dogs. I can only imagine the number of people reading this staring at the previously mentioned milky coffee and putting it to one side while looking at it with concern.
Whether you believe me, or more importantly the opticians in question, barking mad, it is indeed true that a bizarre selection of canine designed glasses have been produced and marketed under the brand Doggles at Sehwork Opticians in Berlin. The pooch eye wear has been launched, and sold I might add, to cater for a perceived hole in the market, sunglasses to protect the vision and eyes of mutts and mongrels the world over, well in Germany at the very least. Now this might make me sound slightly weird at the mention of it, but having witnessed a 'mother' and 'father' in Puerto Banus anguishing over which designer dog bowl, suede bowl holder and diamond studded collar to purchase for little Rex, I am not in the slightest bit surprised. Having at first believed the said couple to be behaving sarcastically, I was a little taken a back when noticing the real stress both of walking Ralph Lauren adverts in human form's eyes, in having to make a decision, and the worried glances they continued to shoot at Rex, who I presume had made it clear how dis-pleasured he would become if the incorrect decision was made, and of course would need the obligatory trip to Doggy Dryout to help with his alcohol induced depression which would naturally follow. Dog owners it would seem, are not uncommonly prone to moments of madness.
With programmes such as The Only Way Is Essex filling our screens with pooches beyond being simply pampered, it is relatively unsurprising to see these new sunglasses which claim to offer full UV protection to the wearer while out and about in the sun as well as offering a screen against the wind in cooler climates. As well as offering a trendy look for your designer dog, Doggles are also promoted as offering great comfort to your four legged friend as they are described as "flexible" and "snug fitting". I shall now retire to my bed and reflect on the madness I have just written.
