Market Potential Lacking? Are Contact Lenses The Right Choice?

A new report of just over twenty thousand consumers between 16 and 54 years of age in Europe has revealed that just under a third of spectacle wearers would make the switch to a contact lens IF they were recommended by their eye doctor.

The report highlights how the practices are failing to pick up on a prevalent market amongst existing patients.

Around a fifth of those interviewed claimed they were not receiving an in depth professional opticians recommendation as a factor in their decision. This is a costly undersight on behalf of UK practises.

The relationship between advisors and clients is not proving extensive enough as if they were, opticians would be able to progress to ultimately what would be  a sale, which has potential earnings of almost fifty thousand pounds per annum.

This is based on an optician providing one new contact lens patient per week across 6 days. There is likely high numbers of glasses wearers who would benefit from a switch to lenses that are not having the pro's of the switch encouraged and as a result revenue is being missed and the UK market potential not being realised.

The importance for health professionals to be recommending lenses is the highlight of the findings. Practitioners need to listen up, if nothing else the clients have a right to fully informed options.
