The firm Essilor has launched their new varifocal design "Varilux S " series ( their seventh generation lens) that has been described as breaking with the usual limitations of varifocal performance.
The company have reported that the lens will provide wearers with an extremely wide field of vision with a minimal swim effect. The series has been developed through Essilor's LiveOptics.
Two advances in optics have helped realise the correction - SynchronEyes (which considered the physiological differences between the eyes to ensure maximised binocular fields of vision), and Nanoptix, which re-engineered the lens structure to virtually eliminate swim effect.
For practitioners that use a Visioffice Universal measuring device, they claim that performance could be further advanced via Eyecode frame fitting conditions and a personalisation technique which considered the patients dominant eye.
A Company Professor has commented that even people who have been unsuccessful with progressive lenses previously should now find the new features of this series of lenses adaptable.
