OptiMedica Catalys Precision Laser System Used For The First Time

OptiMedica Catalys Precision Laser System

OptiMedica Corp, the Silicon Valley based ophthalmic device company, have excitedly announced that their newly launched Catalys Precision Laser System has successfully been used for the first time in the treatment of a patient in Bochum, Germany. The ophthalmic unit has been designed and deployed for cataract surgery, with an anticipation that it will be able to offer leaps in precision while also offering an easy to use and ergonomic system.

Professor Burkhard Dick, the first ophthalmic surgeon to use the new cataract system from OptiMedica, has been impressed by the speed and accuracy that the Catalys system offers, while also being surprised by how quickly, easily and efficiently he has been able to integrate it within his optical practice. The Catalys system offers cataract suffering patients a much safer technology to take advantage of as it decreases the amount of ultrasound energy that may be required in breaking down cataracts ready for extraction. The system incorporates a femtosecond laser (designed for faster, more accurate and safer cataract breakdown), an integrated OCT, or optical coherence tomographer and OptiMedica's pattern scanning technology. Professor Dick has also welcomed the significant improvements that this technology brings to the patients themselves.

OptiMedica, founded in 2004, is an innovated company based in ophthalmology while also developing and commercialising the PASCAL(R) Method of retinal photocoagulation. Exclusively focused in the cataract therapeutic area, the company has developed the Catalys Precision Laser System to deliver increased precision in cataract surgery through image-guided pre-operative lens conditioning.
