PEARS Learning Module For LOC's and ROC's

pears learning module for optometrists

Funded by the Local Optical Committee Support Unit, a training module has been made available to members of the LOCSU that offers 14 CET points via a range of lectures and computerised questions. The distance learning tool gives local and regional optical committee's negotiating Primary Eyecare Acute Referral Scheme contracts the opportunity to access training material to ensure PEARS pathways are implemented correctly and successfully.

The WPEC developed module, already available for use by Welsh optical groups, features information on common eye conditions which optometrists meet who already provide PEARS, detailing symptoms, signs and management for each issue. Answers can then be uploaded for verification, upon a candidates completion of specific lectures, once accessed via software made accessible by the training module.

It is hoped that the PEARS course module will offer commissioners increased confidence in the abilities of optometrists to offer this enhanced service, without issue or any problems. The course should also, in turn, provide confidence for the optometrist themselves in being able to successfully use their specialist skills.

Access to the training is available via LOCSU and members and non-members should contact them directly for further information.
