Risks To Your Eyes For Smokers

We all know the dangers and cancer risks for those that smoke, and the complications that can be instilled by being a passive smoker even. For long term eye health, smokers should seriously consider quitting or at least reducing their intake.

A smoker increases the risk of contracting cataracts and also macular degeneration in later life. Like other health benefits, the effects of stopping the habit automatically reduce their risk of developing eye diseases such as these almost as low as for non-smokers.

The main threat of suffering from cardiovascular diseases will still indirectly affect your vision and health of your eyes. Smoke is an irritant for starters and will aggrivate conditions like dry eye. Women who are past menopause are most likely to be affected by this condition.

Smoking will  increases the risk of vision loss  in patients who already have other eye disease. Pregnant mothers who continue to smoke while carrying are not only in danger of a premature birth but they also  put their babies at high risk of developing retinopathy of prematurity which can potentially lead to blindness.

You can seek advice from your GP or health organizations to assist in quitting, but do it! Soon!
