Worrying Stats Regarding Living With Correctable Vision Loss

Living in the western world, it is easy to think that all diseases are either curable or easily manageable in this advanced technological age. Of course, this is not exactly the case but on the flip side it seems that education across many parts of the globe aren't quite up to speed either. A recent study in Canada shows an alarming number of sufferers from some form of vision loss, are living with their condition, and adapting to life without being aware of treatments to improve or even cure the issue that they have.

The research project focused on eye conditions amongst the Canadian population, assessing trends between age along with a number of other variables. The most shocking stat however, showed that as much as 14% of adults in the country are suffering from a loss of vision to some degree that is actually treatable. Even more staggering was that the treatments involved to correct such issues simply involved either prescription glasses or contact lenses, something which seems obvious to many, but clearly shows a lack of knowledge and education in this instance.

At the same time, this inability to treat eye diseases or conditions may come down to patients simply not visiting an optician when an issue arises or are unaware of symptoms that precede in some cases serious conditions such as glaucoma, but don't even realise that they have it. The concern on this level could then easily cause further issues in a wider spectrum when you consider that such an enormous volume of people could have diseases that affect situations that require increased visual abilities and concentration, such as driving.
