Noting Figures

While  there are many reports in the media of eye health practice and it's shortcomings, it is also worthy and encouraging to take note of the improvement's that are reported and ongoing. One of those in question is the total number of patients receiving optometrists eye tests.

Irish School Screenings

An initiative named Bright Eyes is being launched in Ireland following feedback that the school screening program for children is not as effective as it should be. Reports from the Association of Optometrists claimed children were receiving late treatment as there were shortages in available appointments with ophthalmologists.

Swedish researchers have been looking at the regulation of glucose in test subjects by making a transfer of insulin producing cells from the pancreas to the eye. The studies are expected to have an impact on future studies of diabetes.

Multi Year Partnership Development

A partnership between the International Vision Expo and the British Contact Lens Association has been formed to create a Global Contact Lens Forum that will run over two days next year, The first programme will be in New York on 26 and 27 March 2014 and the second will be here in the UK in June at the British Contact Lens Association Clinical Conference a

Women:The Pill and Glaucoma

A recent study by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention of 3406  American women all over the age of forty has reported that the risk of developing glaucoma was  increased two fold if they had been prescribed the oral contraceptive pill and taken them for longer than three years.
